Dave Schlabach CFE, Executive Director, National Independent Concession Association (NICA), Tampa, FL

The National Independent Concession Association (NICA) was formed 15 years ago to promote and cultivate better communication between concessionaires and fair and festival management and has made a positive contribution to the industry. In 2005, Dave Schlabach joined NICA as Executive Director. The organization continues to experience significant growth. Although involved in facility and event management for most of his life, Dave received his start in the fair business in 1990 when he was hired to manage the International Agri-Center at The Erie County Fair in Hamburg, NY. He continued to serve the Erie County Fair for 10 years in a variety of management positions, including General Manager. He received the distinction of CFE (Certified Fair Executive) from the IAFE in 1997. Dave is active on many national committees. His current favorite project is working with event management and concessionaires to develop “Best Practices,” a document created to promote stronger and more professional working relationships.
