Position: Recreation Events Supervisor (FLSA: Exempt; Shift-Full-time; will include evenings & weekends)

Salary: $18.10/hour

Location: Oviedo on the Park, 299 Center Lake Lane, Oviedo, FL

 

Work Objective:

Performs intermediate professional work planning and coordinating a variety of special events and recreation events for the Center Lake Park Amphitheater and Cultural Center. Supervises assigned personnel.  Does related work as required.  Work is performed under supervision of the Recreation Manager.

Supervises and evaluates recreation aide specialists and part-time seasonal staff at Center Lake Park Amphitheater.
 
Responsibilities include: supervising, interviewing, training, appraising work performance, assigning and directing staff, rewarding and disciplining employees and recommending hiring new employees.
 
Schedules, organizes, and coordinates logistical requirements for a variety of events; participates in pre-event planning, maintains records and files; prepares reports.
 
Plans, organizes, implements and supervises special events and recreation activities at the Center Lake Park Amphitheater and Cultural Center; oversees and participates in promotional activities for Center Lake Park Amphitheater and Cultural Center; prepares and maintains recreation events and files, records and reports.
 
Promotes usage of Center Lake Park Amphitheater and Cultural Center by greeting and answering client questions;
 
Coordinates advertising for programs and events at Center Lake Park;
 
Ensures proper event set-ups, changes, adjustments as requested by users and resolves event- related challenges;
 
Coordinates the proper upkeep of rental facilities, contents, and grounds.
 
Performs administrative work, including answering phones, keeping records and accounts related to the operation of the Center Lake Park Amphitheater and Cultural Center; composes letters, prepares reports, correspondence, fliers, and monthly summaries outlining work activities.
 
Conducts tours of the Center Lake Park Amphitheater and Cultural Center informing prospective users of the public services and multiple facilities; promotes favorable image of the City.
 
Coordinates the completion of evaluations for each event by soliciting patron and user comments regarding the facility and services provided;
 
Documents, evaluates, and reports on activities performed, problems encountered, taken actions, and related information; recommends changes in operational procedures based on findings.

 

Collects and records rental fees and deposits; assigns rental rooms in accordance with established policies and patron needs; compiles statistical information on schedules, maintenance and facility use; assists with the Center Lake Park Amphitheater and Cultural Center budget planning.
 
Serves as liaison to caterers of the Center Lake Park Amphitheater and Cultural Center and ensures contract compliance.  Accepts and processes caterer payments according to the agreement.
 
Enforces departmental rules and regulations.
 
Prepares and recommends policies and procedures for division.
 
Performs related tasks as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Event Management, or related field and three (3) years of special event planning and/or event programming experience. Valid driver license (must obtain Florida driver license within 30 days of employment). American Red Cross (ARC) First Aid certification (must obtain within one year of employment). Event Planners Association and Association of Certified Professional Wedding Consultants certification preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.  Will be required to work weekend and evening hours.

Position:                  RECREATION SPECIALIST III (Special Events)

Salary:                    $39,091 Annually

Department:            Parks and Recreation/Special Facilities

Location:                 John Prince Park, 2700 6th Avenue South, Lake Worth

Hours:                     8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday - Friday

Other:                     Valid Florida Driver’s License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.

Performs administrative and supervisory work developing and managing large special events for County-Wide participation, partnerships and sponsorships with outside organizations to enable/enhance specialized recreation program delivery.  Plans, coordinates, manages, develops, promotes and budgets large festivals and events in compliance with Department, County and industry standards.  Duties may include extensive research, relationship building oversight and fund-raising.  Recommends new hires and terminations; conducts and signs disciplinary actions. Work is reviewed by a Recreation Program Coordinator through conferences, reports and results obtained.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Health and Physical Education or related field; minimum of three (3) years organizing and directing recreational activities.  Equivalency:  Unrelated Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related experience.

Necessary Special Requirements:  Must obtain First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications within six (6) months of hire.

PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE:  Planning and implementing festival events; with partner building/fundraising; developing and implementing a sponsorship campaign; hiring//evaluating/counseling/promoting/terminating employees.
