CRA Marketing/Special Events Coordinator

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general direction of the Executive Director or Assistant Director of the Community Redevelopment Agency, the CRA Marketing/Special Events Coordinator will market the CRA by developing a strategic marketing plan and implementing the plan by organizing and coordinating a variety of marketing activities and programs. Employee will be required to work evenings and weekends.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Review and become familiar with the CRA's Redevelopment Plan.

Develop a strategic marketing plan to facilitate and promote revitalization within the CRA district.

Coordinate CRA participation in and presence at special events City-wide; coordinate CRA participation in and presence at trade shows, conventions and conferences.

Responsible for physically setting up CRA display booth at trade shows, conventions and conferences.

Plan, develop, coordinate and implement community programs and events for the CRA, including concerts, arts and craft shows, food truck events and managing the Margate Green Market and similar events and activities.

Assist in the setup of community programs and events which may include setting up tables, chairs and barricades.

Establish relationships with the press, including print, radio, television, internet and social media to promote and publicize CRA events and activities.

Research, write and develop event-related marketing materials such as press releases, feature stories, public service announcements and calendar listings for print, radio, television, internet, and social media to promote CRA sponsored and co-sponsored events.

Develop and implement marketing programs, including preparation of brochures and marketing materials to publicize, promote and encourage participation in programs available in the CRA district.

Work with graphic design and printing vendors to produce collateral materials, advertisements, and other creative elements.

Coordinate production, design and write majority of copy for CRA newsletter, annual report, web site and other publications as needed.

Continuously update the CRA web site.

Create and electronically maintain photo records of CRA projects and events.

Monitor and document program expenses and ensure proper completion of required paperwork.

Work with various City departments and outside agencies and vendors to set up and facilitate professional programs and events.

Develop and maintain working relationships with a wide variety of residents, organizations, business leaders, schools, service clubs, media, religious organizations and senior citizen groups.

Work with the Margate Chamber of Commerce on event planning and promotions.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs related work as required.

Performs Emergency Response duties as assigned.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, English or a related field. Minimum three years of professional experience in the coordination and implementation of events, advertising, marketing or public relations is required. Experience should include working in an independent capacity with limited supervision. Must possess and demonstrate an advanced level of competency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Dreamweaver.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED

Physical Requirements : Tasks involve walking, standing, sitting, some lifting and carrying of objects of moderate weight (30-40 pounds).

Interpersonal Communication : Requires the ability to speak and/or signal others to convey or exchange Information. Includes giving and receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to draw valid conclusions in task processing and prioritization. Requires the ability to apply principles or influence systems.

Verbal Aptitude : Must communicate efficiently and effectively in standard English. Must speak with poise, confidence and voice control.

Numerical Aptitude : Requires basic ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; calculate decimals and percentages and interpret graphical data.

Form/Spatial Aptitude : Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.

Motor Coordination : Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes accurately in handling, sorting, and filing documents, and for processing keyboard tasks.

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to utilize a variety of modern office equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Sensory Acuity: Vision and hearing must be within normal standards.

Color Discrimination Requires the ability to differentiate between colors or shades of color.

Interpersonal Temperament : Requires the ability to deal effectively with people in both the giving and receiving of instructions. Must be able to perform under stress of frequent deadlines.

Duty Schedule Variation: Requires the ability to work outside of normal duty hours as required.

Physical Communication : Requires the ability to talk and/or hear; (talking: expressing or exchanging information by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

Environmental Requirements : Tasks are regularly performed with limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions, e.g., dirt, cold, heat, precipitation, fumes, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Has considerable knowledge of the principles, theories, philosophy and techniques of marketing, promotions, and advertising.

Has considerable knowledge of the operations of events and event planning.

Has excellent written and oral communication skills.

Has considerable knowledge of writing, composition, layout and editing techniques.

Has thorough knowledge of computer capabilities as it relates to software applications and internet information gathering and correspondence.

Is proficient with use of graphic design software and graphic design principles.

Has ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City and CRA employees and the general public, and to deal with public relations problems tactfully and courteously.

Is able to set priorities, work independently and manage a number of concurrent events.

Has willingness to work flexible hours that will include some evenings and weekends.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This is a part time position - 25 hours a week. Salary is $28.85 per hour. The City of Margate is a participant in the Florida Retirement System and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
