As a non-profit (501-C-3) corporation, the MainStreet DeLand Association is dedicated to supporting and enhancing the economic development downtown while protecting and promoting DeLand's historic heritage.

The Executive Director will coordinate, facilitate, promote and advance the MainStreet program. The Executive Director will serve as a visionary, listener, and collaborator with various civic and professional constituents in the community, particularly downtown business owners. The Executive Director will encourage awareness of the MainStreet program and act as a liaison to other communities inVolusiaCounty and around the state that could benefit from the offerings of the MainStreet Program.


  • Manages all administrative aspects, including developing and maintaining an appropriate data system for record keeping; developing and monitoring budgets, accounting, purchasing; preparing reports; documenting all physical changes to downtown; retaining information on job creation and business retention.
  • Coordinates the activities of the MainStreet Program Committees and plans a number of special events throughout the year.
  • Supervises support staff.
  • Develops strategies for downtown economic development and historic preservation.
  • With the committees and Board of Directors, creates an annual action plan focused on these four areas: design, promotion, organization, and economic restructuring.
  • Develops and conducts public awareness and education programs to keep the program highly visible.
  • Provides guidance to individual tenants or property owners regarding physical improvements.
  • Provides advice and information, assesses and encourages joint involvement in the downtown community’s promotional events – advertising, uniform store hours, special events, business recruitment, parking management, etc.
  • Advises and assists in efforts to attract people to downtown.
  • Helps build strong, productive working relationships with appropriate public agencies at the local and state levels.
  • Coordinates and recruits an active volunteer force.
  • Participates in appropriate community organizations including Discover DeLand, MAC DeLand, MainStreet Florida, CRA, EDC, City Commission, and River of Lakes.

Work is performed half of the time in the office and half of the time out in the community attending meetings and coordinating events. Some outdoor work is required. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is often required to stand or walk.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Tools & Equipment Used: Personal computer, including word processing software, database systems, and graphic programs. Vehicle, calculator, phones, copy and fax machine.


Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a BS or BA degree required. Five years of experience in community development, business economics, or downtown development, and/or marketing and promotion. Any equivalent combination of education and experience, with additional education substituting on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.


The Executive Director should have education and/or experience in one of more of the following areas: architecture, historic preservation, economics, finance, public relations, design, journalism, planning, business administration, public administration, retailing, volunteer ornonprofit administration and/or small business development. The Executive Director must be sensitive to design and preservation issues. The Executive Director must be entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well organized, and capable of functioning effectively in an independent situation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Supervisory skills are desirable.

Lakewood Ranch Community Activities Corporation (CAC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create, develop, and present events for the residents of Lakewood Ranch as well as approve and sponsor resident clubs. We are looking for a part-time employee who will support the Director of LWR Community Activities (LWRCAC) in coordinating the details and logistics for hosting events and sponsoring clubs.
The major responsibilities of the job are:
1. Prepares and updates event flyers using Publisher software for Director's review, input, and approval.
2. Assists Director CAC in updating website, social media sites (facebook, linked-in) and sending e-blasts for upcoming events.
3. Assists Director in preparing for events by: contacting vendors, preparing event schedules and layouts for venue, setting up on-line ticket sales, headcounts.
4. Processes payments for vendors/entertainment for events by securing approval from the Director LWRCAC and forwarding to Treasurer for payment.
5. Assists Board of Director Committees in various activities, such as updating marketing brochures in the Community; coordinating volunteer activities and events, and setting up meetings as necessary.
6. Sets up files and records for events.
7. Orders supplies as needed and approved by Director of LWR CAC.
8. Answers CAC phone and assists residents with questions or notifies Director.
9. May greet customers who visit CAC office and answers questions and provides information on events and clubs.
10. May perform other duties as required by workload and Supervisor.

The ideal candidate will have the following education and skills:
- High School Graduate and education/training in graphic design. Minimum of 2 years graphic design work experience. Minimum of 2 years work experience as event coordinator.
- Proficient in using graphic design software, including PhotoShop, Gimp, Adobe Design, and Illustrator
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher)
- Upbeat personality with positive attitude and is able to maintain a smile
- Exceptional Customer Service skills and dedicated to quality output
- Able to pay close attention to details
- Able to meet deadlines for work
- Able to work independently, yet knows when to elevate issues to Supervisor.
- Able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs and to stand for long periods of time.
- Must have use of hands to operate computer equipment.
- Must have accurate vision to perform all functions of job.
- Able to work weekends, evenings, and Holidays as needed to cover event hours.
- Able to work a part-time schedule of approximately 25 hours per week.
