This is a professional supervisory position which is responsible for directing a Community Cultural Arts program. Work is performed under the direction of the Cultural Arts and Sciences Division Head.


Program Development/Implementation: Performs a variety of tasks to include planning, developing, organizing, scheduling, promoting, implementing and evaluating cultural arts programs and activities. Works with other staff members to research, design and develop new programs and exhibits that will challenge and excite citizens of all ages. Conducts programs and activities in a variety of climates and facilities. Networks extensively with community groups. Prepares letters, memos, forms, surveys and reports, etc., pertinent to program success and maintenance. Conducts surveys, coordinates instructors, orders supplies, develops, implements, promotes and evaluates programs and services. 

Resource Management: Assists in overseeing the operation and maintenance of cultural arts assets in accordance with established policies and procedures. Maintains effective maintenance and storage procedures. Helps maintain inventory of supplies and equipment for the operation of cultural arts services and oversees the proper storage of same. Sets up equipment, including tables and chairs in preparation for activities and scheduled uses. Provides some animal care related to center exhibits and/or programs. Ensures compliance with state health and operating standards for facility. 

Supervision and Training of Staff and Volunteers: Determines how programming work will be assigned, processed and reviewed to achieve a high level of performance from staff and volunteers. Assists in hiring, counseling, training. Schedules, and evaluates employees, volunteers and contract providers. Creates an environment conducive to high productivity, efficiency and excellent service to the community. Maintains confidential records. 

Financial Responsibilities: Assists in collecting and accounting for all funds received and spent for assigned cultural arts services facilities and equipment per established policy and procedure. Assists in preparing and justifying program budgets and monitors related expenditures and revenues as they pertain to Cultural Arts programs and services. Assists in coordinating fund-raising and solicits grants as needed to support programs; works closely with management and nonprofit organizations who support City cultural arts programs and services. 

Record Keeping: Assists in preparing contracts, correspondence, agreements, schedules, work orders, memos, monthly reports, etc. related to assigned area. Helps maintain information related to program participation, costs, usage, etc. to properly document program activity and ensure compliance with record retention requirements. Prepares incident/accident reports, daily deposit and cash report and ensures timely delivery of same to Administration. Helps maintain accurate financial records, reports and files. Helps maintain records and prepares a variety of reports relating to Cultural Arts programs. Assists in preparation of detailed program worksheets outlining desired outcomes and recommended resource allocation. 

Customer Service: Assists the general public and City employees with questions on programs. Provides information and gives referrals on an individual basis. Handles complaints/concerns in a professional manner. Services are continuous during daytime, night time and weekends, as assigned. Position has authority to address and restrict access to assigned facilities and programs as needed.


Graduate of a four-year college or university with major course work in cultural arts, recreation or education. Minimum of one-year supervisory experience required. Must be computer proficient. Must be able to work in a variety of climatic environments, both indoors and outside. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as assigned. An equivalent combination of training, education and experience in relevant activities may serve to meet the qualifications. 


Required for All Divisions: 
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Operator Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. 
Current certification in adult, child and infant CPR (or obtained within six months of hire). 
Current First Aid certification (or obtained within six months of hire).


Ability to project a positive, energetic attitude. Strong knowledge of cultural arts and sociology concepts and principals; general knowledge of teaching practices and theories; and ability to apply that knowledge in a variety of situations and environments. Knowledge of physical and social activities used in a division of cultural arts services. Ability to develop, teach, demonstrate and lead programs in an exciting and entertaining manner. Ability to understand audiences and adapt presentations accordingly. Ability to use independent judgment. Ability to establish and maintain effective operating records and reports. 

Ability to remain calm in stressful situations, including the ability to remain positive even in negative situations. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with the public in a courteous and professional manner both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, as well as City employees. Must be self-motivated and resourceful in meeting the needs of patrons. Must be able to organize, train and supervise staff and volunteers for a wide variety of activities and programs. 
Must be able to operate video and audio equipment, personal computer and Microsoft Office programs. Must have the ability to learn new computer programs. Must possess strong organizational skills and knowledge of occupational hazards and accident prevention methods in assigned area of responsibility. Requires basic skill and ability to operate small equipment including hand, power and motorized equipment such as a utility cart, drills, screw drivers and various other tools including the ability to manipulate tools, instruments, devices, etc., normally requiring coordination with eyes, hands, and/or feet. 

*Will have available and will operate a City vehicle as appropriate to implement Center Programs
